Beyond their beauty, interlocking concrete paver products offer superior structural performance in both residential and commercial applications. Some of the benefits of pavers over other pavement materials include:

  • Long lasting individual units are far stronger than ordinary or stamped concrete
  • Unitized concrete pavers create surfaces that resist cracking due to heavy loads and thermal expansion, thus last for many more years than a comparable concrete or asphalt driveway.
  • Damaged or soiled paver units can be replaced easily without having to redo the entire surface
  • Properly installed pavers are more resistant to the effects of frost heave and other soil movement than solid concrete or asphalt.
  • Due to the duration of life the overall costs are less expensive than concrete, wood or other natural and/or man-made materials.
  • Easily removable for utility companies to repair underground lines and then replaced to original appearance, perfect for pool decks and driveway applications.

Hardscape Landscaping

What does Hardscape Mean?

Landscape designers use the terms “hardscapes” and “softscapes” to identify the different elements within your landscape. The hardscape, as it sounds, consists of many solid components such as stonewalls, walkways, patios, and any other permanent structure that provides form or function within the total design.

The softscape refers to the green spaces, such as trees, shrubs, plants and turf areas. It is very important for these two elements to stay in harmony throughout the design process. When we start the design process, the hardscape is established before the softscape is designed.

We can better understand this process by thinking of the many rooms in your home. Some of the same concepts come into play with color, shape, scale, and function. Each room, if designed correctly, invites you to enter the next. These rooms are then connected by hallways, or in the case of the landscape, by walkways or paths. Within this design, we apply these basic elements to support and create the structure and direction that will best suit your individual taste and lifestyle.

The result is a partnership of balance and harmony, which will be enjoyed for years. A well-designed landscape naturally extends your living space to the great outdoors. If the space is created with these basic, common sense concepts in mind, your landscape will appear naturally inviting, relaxing and functional.

Terrascapes offers a complete range of hardscape design and construction services. Consider a long-term investment in hardscapes for your property that will endure for years to come.

Nothing lasts forever and that includes gravel, wood, steel and concrete that comprise the hard part of your landscape. No matter how much care you give them, hardscapes will wear out. According to the National Association of Home Builders, you can expect to replace:

  • Gravel walks after four years.
  • An asphalt drive after 10 years.
  • Wooden fences and sprinkler systems after 12 years.
  • Wooden decks after 15 years.
  • Concrete paver patios and concrete walls after 24 years.
